Active Meditation and Your Day
By · CommentsMany years ago I wanted to learn to meditate so listened to all the experts who said, "You mut learn to empty your mind and be still."
Well, that went about as well and freezing ice in an oven.
My mind won’t be still.
I tried many more time to find the piece that would make meditation a part of my life .. all to no avail.
I have since learned meditation does not require a quite mind. There is a meditative practice I now practice that is active meditation.
It makes it possible for me to have my hands and body doing something while my mind connects to spirit. This includes gardening, cooking, playing my harp, even cleaning.
Most often, active meditation for me involves my doing something that I’m passionate about (not cleaning), something that makes my heart sing. I have always loved gardening and cooking, and the harp entered my life in 2001. I can get lost in all those activities and always feel happier and lighter when doing them. It was a natural extension to make them a meditative process and to deepen my experience.
Even more recently my doctor told me to make meditation a part of my daily life. (Imagine – an MD telling me to use my mind instead of drugs! This is one of the reasons we stay with him.) So becoming more conscious of my actions as a meditation now was a ‘prescription’ for health.
Bottom line: Meditation is proven to have healthful effects AND you don’t have to sit in a lotus position chanting with a clear mind for it to be beneficial for you. Find a way to make your daily activities a meditative process and you can reap the benefits. Make it your own and don’t let anybody tell you how you meditate is wrong – there’s no such thing!
Six Ways to Give Back Daily in 30 Seconds or Less
By · CommentsI am always interested in finding ways to give back to causes that are near and dear to my heart. When I stumbled onto the Animal Rescue Site I was thrilled.
Not only can I help with animal rescue, I can also make a daily contribution for breast cancer, literacy, the rain forest, child health, and world hunger.
You may already be familiar with the "Click this link and help provide mammograms" plea. This is the same site with multiple tabs – one for each cause.
The Animal Rescue Site is my browser home page so every day when I turn on my computer, the first thing I do is take 30 seconds to click on each tab and then again on each "Click to Give" button.
It really takes only 30 seconds or less – depending on the speed of my connection on any given day.
But better than that right now is we get the chance to do even more: After you make your daily click on the Animal Rescue Site, you can vote each day for your favorite shelter. It’s a contest that runs through July 28. Cash awards will be made weekly, with the big prizes being awarded at the end of the contest.
These animal shelters are in great need of the funds to rescue, feed, and treat their rescues.
I’m pulling for Small Paws Rescue in Tulsa, OK. We went through them to bring home our newest, Poppy, and the love and care they give to these little guys is phenomenal. We were so impressed that we also become volunteers for our local Small Paws Rescue.
Surely you can spare 30 seconds a day to contribute to these six causes with a couple of clicks? AND for the next few months, go the extra step to vote for a shelter … remember, vote for Small Paws Rescue, in Tulsa, OK!
What You Need to Know :: According to Laura
By · CommentsWe all think we need to know more, do more, have more.
It creates stress and unrest … and is so unnecessary.
Here’s something picked up in my journeys years ago and I read it ALOT when I feel any overwhelm about where I am (or am not) in my life:
There is really nothing you must be.
And there is nothing you must do.
There is really nothing you must have.
And there is nothing you must know.
There is really nothing you must become.
However …
It helps to understand fire burns,
and when it rains, the earth gets wet ...
It always helps me put my life in perspective and remember what is really important to me. Somehow, the doing, having, and knowing never make it to the top of the list.
Laura Hess Speaks
By · CommentsWelcome to my blog!
Let me introduce myself and tell you a little bit about this blog. Of course, you already know I am Laura Hess.
I’ve been coaching since 1994 and have worked with thousands of people in changing their lives.
What I bring tot he table for you is a pretty eclectic work history.
McDonald’s was my first job as it was for so many. My biggest lesson there was the power of a smile.
I went on to K-Mart where panty folding was what I did. A questionable life skill but it paid the bills.
On to Sears as I was going to school to become an X-Ray tech. From there I went on to become a CPA, a Marketing Professional, Communications Trainer, and now I am a Coach with Internet Marketer thrown in.
Coaching has given me many gifts, the greatest of which was finding my voice. It is that voice that I use here to share with you.
My purpose is to inspire, encourage, and uplift others. I know there is greatness in each of us and my greatest joy is in seeing that greatness reveal itself.
Join me on this journey we share …
